Life In A Wetland by Doris Dumrauf introduces readers to the wildlife that depend on their survival in the North American Wetlands and gives glimpses of them in their natural habitat. The book is a good way for readers to explore the wetlands in their neighborhood and beyond and get to know the amazing birds and creatures living there. Wetlands are important buffers as they prevent flooding and slow the progress of hurricanes. They are also a haven for birds, insects, amphibians, and plants and many of them rely on these wetlands as their feeding and breeding sites. Including the American Alligator, the Wood Duck, the Mallard, Blue Heron, Twelve-Spotted Skimmer, Painted Turtle, the American Bull Frog, and other animals listed, the book gives readers good information about what exists in these wetlands.
I like the way Doris Dumrauf introduces these animals, insects, and birds to young readers by having them introduce themselves. The pictures are colorful and bright and will also help readers identify the various creatures whenever they happen to see them in the neighborhood. Life In A Wetland is a good way to introduce readers to wildlife and educate them about what can be seen while exploring the wetlands. It is a good book to have in school and public libraries, and in one's personal collection because it is informative and can be re-read to learn about the number of species that call these wetlands their home.
