Lily Luna's Journey to Space by Maren Beattie is a wonderfully written children's story that begins with Lily looking out her window at the stars while her ginger cat, Pollux, is lying beside her and rubbing his little black nose against her cheek. As the two of them look into each other's eyes, Lily sees her cat's beautiful green eyes as a big shiny shooting star falls through the sky. She quietly whispers, "I wish I could travel to the stars, Pollux," at that moment and then falls asleep. Then Pollux wakes her up and they are both in space suits and her bed is magically transformed into a space capsule. The two of them launch through the window and begin their journey to the stars.

Maren Beattie has created the perfect bed time story for any child that loves to wish upon a star, accompanied by some beautifully colored illustrations that really bring Lily Luna's Journey to Space to life. As the tiny space capsule soars through the stars, the author gives vivid descriptions of the various types, sizes and colors of all the planets that the space capsule passes. Then the scene changes as the space capsule comes within sight of a black hole. Lily and Pollux are being drawn into the black hole, and the light from the stars is disappearing. From beginning to the end, this book was very entertaining on all levels. I highly recommend this wonderful bedtime story. Brava! Well done!

Lily Luna was lying in her bed and looking at the stars. The moon and the stars were shining bright and filling the dark room with a beautiful light. Lily felt like traveling and getting closer to the stars with her cat Pollux. At that moment a shining shooting star fell through the sky, and Lily wished. Lily fell asleep after a few moments but she could not believe her eyes when she woke up. Pollux and her were both in white space suits, and her bed had been transformed into a tiny grey flying capsule. Lily and Pollux stepped into the capsule and put on their seat belts. A strong breeze opened Lily's bedroom window and the flying capsule flew out of the window.

Lily Luna's Journey to Space by Maren Beattie is an enchanting story that will take young readers on a magical trip and an adventurous journey through space. Children will be excited to see Lily and Pollux traveling full speed through the universe, and passing bright stars and colorful planets. The illustrations are as whimsical as the story and the book will encourage children to learn more about space, the planets, and the stars. It is a wonderful story for bedtime storytelling and can be used in classrooms and school libraries for read aloud and storytelling sessions. This book is definitely a good way to get children interested in science, space, stars, and the planets. The story is an interesting combination of adventure and science and the author has combined them in an entertaining way that makes it appealing to young readers.

Lily Luna's Journey to Space is a children’s science fiction/adventure book for preschoolers written by Maren Beattie. Lily Luna loved lying on her bed and watching the moon, planets and stars shining through her bedroom window, but she wanted more. She nuzzled her ginger cat, Pollux, and confided in him her wish to travel to outer space and see the stars. As they watched the nighttime sky together, Lily noticed a giant shooting star rush past, and she made a wish upon it. She wished that she could travel to the stars, and then she fell asleep. Suddenly, she was awoken by Pollux. She was stunned to see that her bed had turned into a tiny rocket ship, and that both she and her cat were wearing astronaut’s uniforms.

Lily Luna's Journey to Space is a grand way to encourage young readers, particularly young girls, to consider what they want to be when they grow up. The story shows them that being an astronaut is something each of them can be if they want it badly enough and work hard. Beattie’s story is filled with adventure and excitement, and the bright illustrations which grace each panel work quite well at showing each phase of Lily’s adventure. This is the perfect selection for story time; one that will give caregivers a lead-in to a discussion about career dreams and what kids want to be when they grow up. It’s also a suitably challenging primer for a new reader. Highly recommended.
