Ronald A Feldman knows how to hook a reader! The opening paragraph of Little Secrets, BIG LIES sucks us right in as a man has his head blown off by a bullet at the height of an illicit sexual encounter. Though readers never exactly find out how that opening scene connects to the events that follow, it certainly sets the tone for the rest of the story and gets us ready for the kind of people we can expect to meet.

Who we do meet in the next chapter is the protagonist, a beautiful therapist by the name of Lindsay. Still getting over a divorce, she has hooked up with a handsome, but elusive jazz piano player, Jonathan, who has reminded her what it means to be a woman. Keen to continue where they left off, she decides to meet him at the airport, but he mysteriously vanishes and she can't get hold of him for days. As she sees her patients, she is troubled by Jonathan's disappearance from her life, analysing herself as much as her patients, and finding herself attracted to a detective who comes calling after one of her patients and his unmarried bed partner are both shot in bed.

Little Secrets, BIG LIES is a light, but enjoyable story of Mafia murders, hit men and revenge. Everyone has a secret life, especially Jonathan. The attractive detective, Lindsay's caring patients, and Lindsay herself spend most of the story trying to nail Jonathan down. So does the threatening Santoro who believes Jonathan killed his brother. Though he doesn't know it, Jonathan is trying to find Santoro too, and Lindsay is unwittingly the connection to everyone and everything that happens.

Ronald A Feldman breaks up the tension by giving us looks at some of Lindsay's patients. They're a colorful lot and you really do have to wonder how some therapists can listen to them hour after hour. No wonder Lindsay reaches for the wine when she gets home! Characters like the gruff, but lovable Vinny, who is hell bent on protecting Lindsay, add warmth to Little Secrets, BIG LIES and the author's skill with dialogue keeps the story moving. A good book to take on vacation this summer.
