Lola & Sophie’s ABC Adventure by Christine Devane is a sweet little picture book that follows two real dogs, Lola and Sophie, as they take kids on an alphabet journey. Each letter shows a word or phrase about dog life, and you see it all through their playful antics—car rides, naps, dress-up, and lots of mischief. Along the way, you learn a bit about their real lives too, like Sophie’s rescue from a tough shelter and Lola’s happy family life. Going from A to Z makes the story easy to follow, but Lola and Sophie themselves make it stick in your mind. Children aren’t just reading letters—they’re learning about caring, empathy, and giving pets a second chance. Those incredible lessons will stay with them long after the last page.
Lola & Sophie’s ABC Adventure is perfect for youngsters just starting to learn to read. Christine Devane writes in a clear, warm tone that’s easy for children to understand. Because the story is based on real dogs, it feels authentic, and the gentle way it introduces animal rescue is very approachable. The scenes mostly mirror a typical family life, so kids can see themselves in the dogs’ adventures. Lola and Sophie aren’t complicated characters, but their unique quirks make them memorable and fun. The ABC format moves things along nicely, while also slipping in lessons about kindness, which both parents and their kids will appreciate. Families, teachers, and anyone who loves dogs or animal adoption will find it a lovely and heartwarming read. Very highly recommended.
