Love Amidst Shadows: A Mother for Sabrina by Carl Turner is a powerful story that follows Sabrina and her struggles. She does not believe in families and she certainly does not want one. In her book, family is nothing but a force that holds you back. They don’t love you, appreciate you, or provide you with affection. They either mess you up, leave you behind, or worse, die on you and leave you alone. She prefers to stay alone and concentrate on being a scientist and studying flowers. Their vitality and beauty enchant her and give her something to love because they cannot cheat on you and make you regret. They just remain beautiful. But her life is shaking up. There are dreams stopping her from concentrating on her work. The dreams are sometimes serene and sometimes very nonsensical. What should she do?
This novel was fantastic. Author Carl Turner did an amazing job with building up the plot and creating a character that to some extent we all can relate to. Sabrina is just drowning herself in her work so that she does not have to face reality. Many people will get a lot of help from this book in understanding that family does not end with blood. There are a lot of people around us who love, respect, and appreciate us for who we are. This is a very powerful book with an equally powerful message. Very well written and thought out! I really enjoyed it.
