Love Wars: Clash of the Parents, A True Divorce Story – Memoir by Matthew A. Tower is a humorous yet heartbreaking look at the effect of divorce on children. Matthew loved both his parents, but the constant wars between them were dragging him down. In a bid to escape the pain, Matthew decides only he can stop the wars and decides to “become” Luke Skywalker, his all-time hero, to do what he can. But he can’t do it alone. Will his brother, Thomas Rabbit, help him destroy the Divorce War Death Star, or will Matthew have to do it by himself? And can they even succeed, or are their parents too far down the line?

Love Wars by Matthew A. Tower takes a look at divorce, told from the viewpoint of someone caught in the middle, a firsthand experience of the pain and torment. It can’t be helped that kids get drawn into the fight when divorce is on the cards, but too many parents are so caught up in their own drama that they don’t stop to think about the children. The book is filled with amazing drawings by Tsuneo Sanda, and uses Star Wars to get the message across and help readers understand what the kids went through. This is at times laugh-out-loud funny, but beneath it all is a heartbreaking story that will be familiar to many, and it’s so brutally honest that you’ll feel the pain intensely. It’s incredibly well-written, drawing you in from the first page, and the ending might just surprise you. This isn’t just a book for children; a lot of parents can learn so much from it too, least of all how not to put their kids through hell should the hammer fall.
