Loving Lovely is a book about dreams becoming reality, but leaves one with the question of whether reality is the true dream. Loving Lovely follows Vince Bracco, a man who works for his family's Italian deli alongside his mom, Dede, and dad, Tom. Vince is a bit (a lot) of a womanizer, but the problem is that his heart is tied to a woman who only visits him in extremely vivid and terrifying dreams. A woman he has never met in real life, but who haunts his nights and his waking hours. The love he ends up feeling for her, whom he calls 'Lovely', keeps him from allowing himself to fall in love with other women. This enables him to continue his womanizing ways, which pushes away a woman his family loves and a woman with a deadly obsession. When face to face with 'Lovely' in a chance encounter, Vince dives head first into love, ready to make the rest of his life happen. However, real life sets in and the question ends up being: was he really in love with his dream girl, or her reality?
Diane Paley has a gift for writing complex characters into her story. I found myself interested in the secondary characters, as they had a great deal of depth. By bringing in current world events, there was a guaranteed emotional response from readers. At times, I felt the story perhaps moved too quickly, and more detail and development would have been wonderful for the reader. Overall, however, this is a really good book that just about any contemporary romance reader would thoroughly enjoy.
