Lulu the Unstoppable Dancing Dog is a work of fiction in the children’s literature genre. It is aimed at younger readers and was penned by Marie Dimitrova. The book follows the adventures of Lulu the pug who gets jealous when she sees her human family waltzing and wishes to join in. Refusing to feel silly over her disastrous first attempts, Lulu’s dogged determination to learn how to dance sees her face a battle with her own attention span to stay focused long enough to practice the difficult moves that a dog needs to do in order to be a graceful dancer.
It’s obviously not essential for children’s stories to have an important moral that they’re trying to impart; it’s perfectly fine for them to just be silly and whimsical and leave it there. But for the ones that decide to do both, what we find in the middle is a wonderful story that imparts one of life’s most important lessons at an early age; nobody is born skilled, they learned their craft through hard work and discipline. Marie Dimitrova is the very model of a brilliant children’s author, taking an important lesson about life and wrapping it in a very funny and absurd story that makes it easy for young readers to access without ever detracting from the moral at the center. Lulu the Unstoppable Dancing Dog is a must-have for you and the young reader in your life to enjoy together, to talk about afterward, and, most importantly, to remind them of when life’s challenges get them down.
