Author Biography

Millie was born and raised in New York, in the heart of Manhattan. Subsequently, she relocated to the outskirts of New York and now lives in NJ. Millie values her husband, a retired NYC Firefighter, her daughters, her grandchildren, and her two dogs above all else.

If she is not spending time with her friends and family, you can almost always find her in her craft room designing something, or dreaming up new ideas for her next book. In 2003, Millie published a poem in the book Invoking The Muse. Her love of poetry helped pave the way for her first children's book, The Bus Ride to School.

Millie felt kids needed a fun way to understand the safety and enjoyment of their daily school bus ride. The Bus Ride to School is Millie’s first children’s book. Millie has now written a 2nd children's book, Mason, The Blue Boy Puppy, a story that was inspired by her late dog Mason and her daughter Melissa.

Mason, The Blue Boy Puppy by Millie Donofrio is a children's picture book about friendship and finding a forever home. When Melissa gets a blue and white-furred dog for her birthday, she is excited and names him Mason. The two became instant best friends, spending their days playing and nights snuggling. As time goes by, Melissa grows up and leaves home for college. She leaves Mason with her mother. He becomes sad and lonely, always waiting for Melissa to return for the holidays. Finally, Melissa’s mother sees how Mason whimpers whenever her daughter is not home, and she decides to get him a friend. But this task is not easy because the dogs at the animal shelter are too big for little Mason. Will Mason ever have a new friend?

If you love stories about cute dogs, Mason, The Blue Boy Puppy is the book for you. Mason is an adorable puppy that you will fall in love with. Children will love getting to know Mason, Melissa, and her mother. The characters are everyday people with lives and emotions. Children like to pester their parents for pets, and Melissa is like any other kid. She desperately wanted a puppy, and she got one. Unfortunately, she had responsibilities that kept her away from home. Only a few people notice when their pets are unhappy. I loved that Melissa’s mother showed concern and did something about Mason's distress. Dogs have feelings too, and it was admirable that she considered Mason’s needs and size when finding him a new friend. The illustrations in the story are beautiful. They bring all the characters to life and tell the story perfectly. Children will love the colorful images and enjoy this heartwarming story. Great job.
