With a print bag over her shoulder, long red hair, and dressed in a frumpy T-shirt and a hideous gold-colored shawl, Ellie Parker was not anyone’s typical date. As Ellie queues at the coffee shop with her heart thumping loudly in her chest, she cannot help getting fidgety. “What if everything goes wrong? What if he walks out on me like the rest have? What if he gets put off by my clumsiness?” Questions and fear plague her mind. She could not wait to conclude her online arranged date with Damon…or was it Damien? As she turns around, she bumps into Noah Donovan and for some time forgets all that’s around her as she is absorbed by his kindness and, on top of that, his alluring eyes, tanned skin, beautiful brown hair, stunning smile…Good gravy! Matchmaker by Evangeline Kelly chronicles Ellie’s life as she seeks to fulfill her mother’s dying wish. After twenty-three dates, Ellie starts sinking fast into frustration and begins to label herself as unlovable. It is then that Noah steps in and offers his services as a dating coach, but is he ready to set her up with someone else?
Matchmaker by Evangeline Kelly is an inspiring story written with an aim to encourage young people to define themselves by God’s viewpoint of who they are. Ellie struggles with issues of identity and self-confidence, areas which most young women struggle with in today’s world. On the other hand, Noah struggles with feelings of rejection and self-doubt, hurdles many men wrestle to cope with. Reading Matchmaker by Evangeline Kelly affirmed my faith in letting God and not people define who I am.
