When their family dog Sierra unexpectedly passed away, a grief-stricken Cindy Ojczyk, in an attempt to console her adolescent daughters, Anna and Mia, decided to foster rescue dogs. In Mom Loves the Dogs More, Cindy shares her experiences of fostering dogs while raising two teenage daughters with their own mental health issues. After two consecutive foster fails with Poet, a Papillon puppy, and Margo, a black retriever-like dog, Cindy was determined to find homes for the next dogs she happened to foster, much to the chagrin of her daughters, and sometimes, even her husband, Joe. Meanwhile, both Anna and Mia were diagnosed with anxiety and ADHD, exhibiting troubling behavior in school and at home. However, as the years passed, Cindy successfully helped find homes for plenty of rescue dogs and even a few kittens.

Mom Loves the Dogs More is an illuminating memoir that shows the challenges of fostering rescue animals, and includes parenting teenage children, navigating financial constraints, and embracing foster fails. In this captivating book, author Cindy Ojczyk provides an unflinching account of her foster experiences, sharing all the highs and lows and everything in between. Ojczyk has an engaging way of telling her story in a narrative laced with warmth, humor, and a genuine sense of familial love. The author is also successful at capturing the different personalities of her rescue dogs on the pages. As a pet owner, I could relate to Cindy's experiences, and the fact that almost all her foster dogs found loving homes filled my heart with joy. If you're a pet owner or animal lover in general, I highly recommend this book.
