Meet the New Boss by Drew Davis opens with the cold-blooded murder of Leo Gallaraga, former boss of all the crews in East Dallas, Texas. Tom Hill pulled the trigger. But no one could blame him. Hill did what he had to do: take out the boss who wanted a third of his earnings. But that happened five years ago. Since that time, Hill and Doc, his partner in crime, have enjoyed life as upstanding citizens and business owners. However, Hill has a secret life, with an online porn business, an illegal sports book operation, and his illicit Hurricane Katrina earnings. But his racket has its share of enemies -- the Organized Crime Task Force and Howard Hughes, a reclusive kingpin and fierce rival.

Meet the New Boss is not for the faint of heart. Filled with graphic language, unscrupulous characters, abject corruption, and heinous murders, this story is a fast-paced ride that will keep you guessing. These are the elemental forces of crime fiction that Drew Davis has perfected. I loved the complexity of Tom Hill, the reincarnation of Al Capone. When he was not involved in criminal activity, he ate muffins with his elderly neighbor, Mrs. McGhee; found part-time jobs for two teenage boys, Ian and Mark; provided start-up capital for Ramesh Patel, and helped Bo, a former, celebrated high school athlete make ends meet. The raw dialogue drew me into Hill’s underworld. This is Davis’s debut novel. Meet the New Boss is highly recommended.
