I knew from the third paragraph of Milked by debut author Lisa Doyle, that I was going to simply love this book. “I certainly didn’t think that in the span of two years, I’d be an unemployed, single mother with my tits for rent,” was the line that hooked me, and the rest of the story just continued to reel me in! Following the story of Amanda Keane, as she finds herself in just this position, Milked is a hilarious and fun read that kept me turning the pages throughout.

When she finds herself pregnant by a man who has absolutely no interest in marrying her, and saddled with the costs of C-section delivery with no insurance, Amanda is just not sure what to do next. When her good friend lets her in on the dirty little secret of many of Chicago’s elite moms, that many of them want their infants to have the benefits of breast milk but without the work of producing it themselves, Amanda finds herself dashing through the city to deliver that white gold to all who are willing to pay. Along the way, she meets a cast of interesting characters, not the least of which is Dan, a cute father who seems interested in her, and you’ve got one heck of a great read.

Lisa Doyle’s work is just a delight. Fast paced and funny, it’s an easy book to read all in one sitting. In fact, that’s the way I highly recommend you read it, because once you pick it up, you won’t want to put it down. As a mom who’s nursed two sons, some of the situations that main character Amanda found herself in made me laugh out loud, because I could certainly relate! Milked would appeal to any reader who loves chick lit, a humorous read, or who just wants a fun read. I am eagerly waiting for the next book by author Lisa Doyle, and hope that she’s hard at work on her next novel!
