Miriamne the Magdala: The First Chapter in the Yeshua and Miri Novel Series by JB Richards is a beautiful, heartwarming, yet daring account of the life of Yeshua (Jesus) and Miriamne (Mary) of Magdala as no one could ever imagine it. A brilliant intro into a series that will undoubtedly cause a lot of controversy and make readers question what they know about Jesus of Nazareth. How was Jesus’s childhood? What is it that the Gospels hide from us? Was Mary of Magdala just a prostitute converted to the teachings of Jesus? What happened in the early years of Jesus and what is it we don’t know about his relationship with the disciple Mary? In this beautiful historical novel, Richards offers readers a story that is as probable as it is intriguing, one that will provoke an overhaul of what we believe about Jesus.
Miriamne the Magdala: The First Chapter in the Yeshua and Miri Novel Series is a book that explores the joys and glories of the life of Jesus. The narrator is one of the protagonists, Miriamne, and she paints a fascinating picture of Galilee, revealing mores and customs, portraying the ordinary life within which is knit the mystery of the Galilean. The author must have done a lot of research and it is beautiful to note how she integrates historical and traditional elements into the story.
I love the way JB Richards portrays Mary in this story -- tough, full of joy, free as a bird, and radically pursuing her heart’s desire. There are numerous passages in which readers will recognize the luscious, sensuous woman who adored her Master. The theme of brotherhood and love come across powerfully as well. Readers will fall in love with the prose, with the lively dialogue, and with the compelling characters. As you read this book, you’ll feel like Mary of Magdala has been your next door neighbor all along, and as though you can reach out and touch Jesus.
