Mirror Witch is the first book in the Daughters of Hecate series by Phoebe Walker. After a large number of Fenrir wolves vanish, the Council - representing the supernatural community - sends Booker (a werewolf) to investigate. Booker contacts Jo Murphy, owner of the Sanctum Occult store, and the last person to see the Fenrir alive. At first, Jo is wary of Booker but soon learns to trust him. When one of Jo's staff members goes to the Purgatory Nightclub and returns as a zombie intent on ending Jo's life, Booker jumps into action and eliminates the threat. Jo eventually lifts the wards which prevent Booker's access to Sanctum and gives his pack a five-year residential lease inside her building. Booker learns the shocking truth of the Fenrir wolves' final moments and quickly understands Jo's fear of werewolves. Jo and Booker are soon mated and when Booker disappears, Jo uses her mirror magick to locate him, unleashing hell on earth when she learns the shocking truth of who is trying to kill her... and why.
I was completely mesmerized while reading Mirror Witch. When Jo recounts the last days of the Fenrir wolves, I was triggered in so many ways as a survivor of rape, but this only shows how talented Phoebe Walker's writing skills are. It is not easy overcoming a woman's worst fears and enabling her to be able to trust again. Jo and Booker become the most unlikely of friends (and lovers) and the link between the two fed my thirst to know more and more about what makes them tick. Utilizing all magickal resources possible, Jo ensured the safe and untainted future of Diana's wolves, while all protected each other within the pack. The Pagan storyline of Mirror Witch was absolutely brilliant in my mind, and I cannot wait until the second book in the series is released as it is already guaranteed a special place on my bookshelf. I highly recommend Mirror Witch to fans over the age of fifteen who enjoy the genres of paranormal romance, suspense, action, and horror.
