Mother's Mega Marrow by Svetlana Kitik is a picture book that uses rhymes and vivid artwork to celebrate gardening, growth, and the joy of sharing. It begins as a mother-daughter team embarks on an adventure that revels in the wonder of watching a single seed grow into something to eat. Together, they spend their days tending to their garden. The mom has a fondness for nurturing produce of all shapes and sizes, including a record-breaking marrow that quickly becomes the talk of the town. This story weaves in gentle lessons about patience, generosity, and community using humor. This tale is both a celebration of nature’s wonders and an invitation for young readers to discover a love for planting.

Svetlana Kitik’s Mother's Mega Marrow is an excellent book about working together for a common cause. I appreciate the bond between the mother and daughter, and children can think of the activities they do with their own mom when reading or hearing it. As an educator, I believe it reinforces the themes of cooperation and hard work in a way that young students can understand and relate to. It could also spark classroom conversations about how plants grow, what kids enjoy doing with their parents, and other ways they can help at home or school. After reading, learners could draw their favorite fruit or vegetable. Teachers could also create a chart with them, showing everyone’s favorite items from the garden and tallying the most popular ones. The engaging illustrations by Maura Juliana O’Regan are colorful and bring the details in the text to life. Perfect for family or school reading, it’s a warm reminder that patience can bring delightful surprises—and maybe a very big vegetable! A good story that I could use in the classroom for various themes or topics.

Mother's Mega Marrow by Svetlana Kitik is a children's picture book about gardening. Narrated in rhyme, this absorbing tale follows two children and their Mother, who is a gardener. Their Mother loves to plant seeds in her beautiful garden and cares for them until they sprout. Using the sun and water, the Mother ensures that her cucumbers, pumpkins, beans, potatoes, and tomatoes have ample resources to feed on and become nutritious, regardless of the shape of the garden bed. But one vegetable in her bountiful garden was different. A marrow grew so enormous that it could fill up an entire wheelbarrow. When Mother decided to take it to the kitchen and feed it to her family, she realized that the marrow was too big for the family. So she shared it with her neighbors down the street.

Mother's Mega Marrow is an engrossing rhyming tale for children that not only entertains but also ignites a passion for gardening, inspiring young readers to explore the wonders of growing their own food. Author Svetlana Kitik's heartwarming storytelling captivates from beginning to end. Children will find these rhymes a joy to sing along with. Additionally, the eye-catching illustrations make the story easy for young readers to follow. Illustrator Maura Juliana O'Regan's beautiful artwork complements the narrative wonderfully. The underlying themes will instil the values of patience, care, and sharing in kids, teaching them how to plant seeds and share their rewards with others. The green-thumbed Mother is a fantastic character that young readers will automatically gravitate toward. She is passionate about gardening and easy to like. Altogether, it's an inspiring picture book for children.
