In the storybook My Birthday Cake Needs A New Home by Chris Stead, readers are introduced to a little girl and her mother, who has baked a big birthday cake for her. The cake is so big that they cannot finish it and it does not fit fully into the fridge. The little girl keeps wondering where to keep the birthday cake. She knows if she puts it in her toy box that her little brother might eat it up. She thinks the best place to hide it is in her tummy, but her mom has told her not to eat it anymore. What will the little girl do to find a new home for her birthday cake?
I found the story adorable and funny. Who does not like reading about birthdays and birthday cakes? I like the way the little girl tries to solve the problem of finding a place to keep the big cake her mother has baked for her birthday. It is a good story to read out to children as the little girl’s plight will definitely bring a smile to the faces of young readers. The illustrations are delightful and charming and they bring the author’s words and characters to life. I like the way the little girl tries to solve the problem of finding a place to keep the big cake. The way the story ends is cute and I recommend this delightful story to all parents to read out to their children before bedtime.
