Not all superheroes wear capes—some have whiskers and paws. My Cat Hopper by Melissa Carrigee is a children’s picture book about an adventure-seeking, playful copper-colored cat named Hopper. With each page, he takes on a new role, like riding a toy chopper, wearing his favorite topper, or discovering a popcorn popper. The story builds through a playful pattern of rhyming words that add new details to the kitty's day as a repeated phrase grows longer. Of course, even the busiest superheroes have quiet moments, and this supercat is no exception. What other escapades might Hopper dream up?

I enjoyed reading My Cat Hopper by Melissa Carrigee. Hopper made me think of my cat, Buddy. He’s an orange tabby that always stirs things up. The playful rhymes really add to the fun. I can picture kids repeating the phrases louder and longer every time. The little kitty was like a superhero, racing around with confidence and excitement. As a teacher, I'd use it to start lively conversations about pets and what makes someone a hero. We'd also probably make a list of words that rhyme. Then students could create their own superhero animals and describe their explorations with rhyming phrases. The illustrations by Brian Martin are bright, energetic, and expressive; Hopper's expressions made me smile. Superman's famous belief that 'There is a superhero in all of us' feels like it belongs at the heart of this book. The feline’s experiences show how imagination can transform an ordinary day into something special. Those looking for stories about cats, pets, and rhyming journeys will want to pick this one. It would be a strong addition to homes, classrooms, and libraries.
