My Wingman by Tessa King is a soulful, heartfelt women’s fiction novel about grief, friendship, and unexpected new beginnings. We’re with Clover, who feels lost after losing her mother and her closest friend, Elliot. That is, until her best friend Reese whisks her away to the charming town of Franklin for a chance at healing. There, Clover meets new friends, faces ghostly memories, and navigates the delicate tug between past love and future possibilities, especially when Elliot’s cheeky younger brother Everett enters the picture. As Clover wrestles with decisions about family, career, and romance, she slowly rebuilds a life that feels authentic, messy, and beautifully her own.
Author Tessa King has a knack for character and emotion that’s evident on every page of this perfect blend of laughter, tears, and charm, and she delivers a tender, witty, and emotionally resonant portrait of life after loss that is rich with dialogue and drama. I really enjoyed the way Clover speaks, thinks, and sees the world, and the close narration that lets us in on her healing journey immediately endeared her to me and made me want to learn more about her. So when she’s presented with such enjoyable romantic dramas, difficult moments of grief and longing, and a heartwarming celebration of female friendship, the story of her very soulful healing becomes enjoyable and empowering to witness. Even the smallest side characters leap off the page, each with heart, quirks, and real emotional depth, thanks to King’s attention to detail, and this is all wrapped up in a beautiful setting that adds the finishing touch to the mood of each scene perfectly. Overall, I would definitely recommend My Wingman for fans of women's fiction done right.
