Next Chapter Travel by Emma Scattergood is a fascinating journey across the world, utilizing cruise ships, trains, buses, and even tuk-tuks to visit an amazing variety of countries and cultures. In a post-COVID world, two middle-aged Australians, both with physical constraints, wanted to reignite their love of travel and exploring different cultures. Beginning with a luxury cruise from Sydney to Greece, with numerous fascinating stops en route, the pair then embarked on a challenging journey across Europe to Turkey, before arriving at one of their true bucket-list countries, India. Apart from the cruise itself, Emma and Darryl had planned and booked this entire trip themselves, mainly through the internet. Sleepless nights, early mornings, questionable transport, and difficult accommodation combine with breathtaking scenery, the absolute kindness of strangers, and some of the greatest wonders of both the ancient and modern world.

Next Chapter Travel is one of those travel books that resonated deeply with me for several reasons. Emma and Darryl Scattergood are closer to our age than many vloggers and bloggers we follow for ideas and inspiration for our travels going forward. Their physical mobility and health issues don’t hold them back from pursuing their passions, and that inspires both my wife and me to continue our journeys of world discovery. I love that they are prepared to back themselves by booking their transportation, guides, and accommodations without relying on the concept of group tours (excluding the cruise, of course). This is also the way we prefer to travel, and their successes, their trepidation, and their occasional difficulties also remind us of the sense of achievement when your efforts allow you to navigate a foreign country, culture, and language. The narrative is detailed and flowing, with every stop on their packed itinerary being well covered. This is the type of book that you will pick up and find impossible to put down because you want to know where they will visit next and what delights and difficulties await this intrepid pair. I haven’t enjoyed a travelogue as much as this one for a long time, and I highly recommend it.

Next Chapter Travel by Emma Scattergood is a fascinating first-hand account of travel that could easily double as a guide for anyone visiting the same countries. Emma and Darryl are on their travels again, this time through Europe and India. The last four years have been tough with the pandemic and Emma recovering from cancer, but they are determined to continue their bucket list. This is their brutally honest account of their journey, all the highs and lows, and everything they learn along the way. This account allows readers to experience these amazing countries without leaving their sofas, and hopefully, it will encourage more people to get up and get out there and see the world while they still can.

Next Chapter Travel by Emma Scattergood is one of the best travel books I've ever had the privilege of reading. It could easily be used as a travel guide, but it’s more than your standard guidebook—it's full of personal insights and real honesty about what they encounter and experience along the way. Every place they visit is described in such a way that you feel as though you are there—the part about Bulgaria was particularly interesting to me, as I live there, and I’ve done the Plovdiv Old Town tour, but under our own steam. Foreign countries are never easy compared to your own home, but hard as things may be at times, every one of them has a unique experience to offer. You’ll learn so much about the cultures and traditions of these countries, not to mention the diverse travel options and much more. This book was fun to read and highly educational. I think that, as Emma Scattergood says, life is short, so we should make the most of the time we have and see what we can.

Next Chapter Travel: More Bucket List Adventures by Emma Scattergood is a travel memoir that takes readers on an extraordinary journey across continents, blending resilience with the thrill of exploration. Scattergood's narrative is inspiring and deeply personal, as she recounts her adventures following a breast cancer diagnosis and her determination to reclaim a life filled with purpose and discovery. The book is structured as a detailed travelogue, spanning from Australia to Europe, through Africa, Türkiye, and India. Scattergood's meticulous planning, often aided by her trusty Excel spreadsheet, highlights her resourcefulness and adaptability. Her vivid descriptions of iconic landmarks, such as the Taj Mahal, the Ganges River, and the Cappadocian landscape, transport readers to these destinations.

Emma Scattergood's battle with cancer adds depth to her story, highlighting her determination to live fully despite health challenges. Her encounters with diverse cultures, historical sites, and natural wonders are interwoven with moments of introspection, humor, and gratitude. The book also provides valuable insights into global issues, including climate change, poverty, and cultural preservation. Scattergood's observations, whether about the Sahara dust coating parts of Greece or the plight of beggars in India, are thought-provoking and empathetic. The writing is engaging, with a touch of humor that keeps the narrative lively and engaging. Scattergood's ability to find joy in simple moments, like walking from Loutraki to Corinth or sipping chai in Varanasi, underscores the beauty of travel as a means of connecting with the world and oneself. Next Chapter Travel: More Bucket List Adventures will inspire readers to embark on their own journeys, whether across the globe or within their own lives. It’s a beautiful and unforgettable memoir.
