When the description for the book asked, "Have you always been beating yourself up and saying that you are not good enough or that you have failed your loved ones, yourself and the society?," I knew I had to read NLP: Simple Neuro Linguistic Programming Techniques For Overcoming Phobias And Changing Lives. Feeling like I always do things wrong or that I've failed someone has been a theme in my life, so I was hoping to find a solution in this book by Robert J. Emerson. I did find a solution in the discussion on Dissociation. In dissociation, a person who has overreacted to a situation and obsessed about their actions with regret can start by identifying the trigger, visualize themselves successfully tackling the situation, and visualize the situation from a different perspective.
Robert J. Emerson's NLP: Simple Neuro Linguistic Programming Techniques For Overcoming Phobias And Changing Lives includes an introduction to NLP, a history, phobias in their relationship to the mind, techniques for overcoming phobias, and easy everyday NLP techniques to change your life. A pretty heavy scientific subject, but Emerson is able to write about it on a level that laypeople can understand and utilize. He explains that behaviors are never right or wrong, only the context is. He also stressed the importance of breathing techniques in calming nerves and anxiety in tense situations. As we all know and, as stated in the conclusion, the mind is the most powerful tool there is.
