Michael is grumpy all the time. He thinks the day is yucky though his mom thinks it is a beautiful day as she opens the curtains. He does not think the bacon is crispy enough while having his breakfast. Michael slams the bathroom door when he goes to brush his teeth after breakfast. Michael does not know why he is grumpy. His mom asks him not to be grouchy anymore that day and tells him there will be trouble if he is grumpy again. Michael is on his best behavior as they drive to the library. Michael does not want to pick up books from the library - instead he wanted movies and his mom does not agree to it. Once they pick up the books, they head to the nearby park. He is still grumpy and finally Michael's mom makes sure that she does something to stop his grumpiness.
No More Grumpies! by Maranda Russell is an endearing story that captures the mother and son bonding and how she succeeds in bringing a smile to Michael's face and making the rest of his day happy. It is a fun read and the illustrations by Brian Reinbolt are adorable. They breathe life into the story and the characters, giving a good flow to the story. It is a lovely bedtime storybook and can be used by tutors in classrooms during storytelling and read aloud sessions. It is a story many children will be able to relate to and there will be many Michaels in classrooms and at home, feeling grumpy and grouchy all the while.
