Nola by Giliak Hobson is a short story about a young warrior’s courage in the fight to set her people free from the threats of a very deadly enemy, the Scorpider that lurks in the dark swamps with other deadly creatures. Nola is very young, frail and slim, the kind of person no one would imagine could head a group of warriors. But when her people are threatened by the dangerous creatures with a sting that makes children lose consciousness and become afflicted in unimaginable ways, the hopes of the people are on Nola. Will she be able to meet the expectations of the suffering masses and bring redemption to her people?

Nola is an interesting and captivating tale that readers will immediately love. The characters are real and it is interesting to watch them progress from apathy to hope under the leadership of one so unlikely to lead a group in a very important mission. In Nola, Giliak Hobson has created a very compelling character, a young woman who doesn’t show anything that makes her stand out. Then the reader soon realizes that beneath the frail and thin body there is a very strong will, a special set of skills that have been sharpened by ruthless experience, and an intelligence that can only come from intense suffering.

The plot moves very fast and at times it feels like a breeze. Although the story could have been developed more in terms of plot, it does have a lot of credit. The author has done a wonderful job of creating characters that readers can easily relate to. It's a very beautiful story. The characters are compelling and I did really like the dialogue which never appeared forced at all.
