Nursing Her Fractured Family by Louis Tong is an enthralling novel. Penny's father has just died, and from now on, she has to take care of her mother and younger sister. Penny, at twenty-four, thinks more about her sister, how to protect her from their mother, who has a mental disorder, and how to financially support them rather than about her own future. Yet she knows that to stand a chance of a better life for all of them, she must make a sacrifice, like leaving Singapore, her sister, and mother to train as a mental health nurse in Florida. But how can she leave her autistic sister with their delusional mother and her conspiracies, troubles with loan sharks, and mysterious brother, who wants money from them? Between trying to move forward and adapt to a new environment, Penny must deal with a spy, her mother's tendency to get into terrifying trouble, and her father's dark secrets from his past.
