Old Flames, New Beginnings by Lea Schizas is a double shot of romantic holiday fun as two women of different generations experience rekindled past loves. Told from the viewpoint of Jazz, Sophia Andropoulos's spicy granddaughter, this story takes place primarily in Montreal, Canada. There are parallels between Sophia's and Jazz's love lives. Both women experienced family interference that kept them from their loves. Years later, family members of both Jazz and ex-boyfriend Jake have a hand in trying to get the two back together. This is especially true of her hot-blooded grandmother. Sophia is determined to get her granddaughter back with the love of her life, Jake. While Sophia and George constantly show generous affection toward each other in public, Jazz is embarrassed and maybe even jealous.
Overall, I enjoyed the whirlwind romance of Old Flames, New Beginnings by Lea Schizas. The unpredictable plot has creative situations that piqued my interest. Schizas uses imagery and descriptive phrases to make her story come to life. Colorful characters like Sophia and George were entertaining. Flashbacks of their childhood in Greece were even culturally informative. The characters are well-developed and unique. If you enjoy Hallmark romance movies, you will like this book. However, there are a few differences. This book is edgier in both language and description. The cover image is cute and inviting. Fortunately, you don't need to be Greek or Canadian to join in the snowy, starry-eyed holiday romance of Old Flames, New Beginnings. So, if you are looking for a fun winter break destination, get yourself a copy of this book!
