Once Upon a Time in a Spaghetti Western, Desperado Cowboy Shoot-'Em-Up Moving Picture Cinematic Feature Film by Steve Hanisch is a satirical western set in the 1880s Old West about the outlaw Hammerin’ Hank ‘Haywood’ Posey. Hank sets out to rob a town, only to discover he has arrived too late and the banks are empty. He befriends a young self-proclaimed outlaw named Clementine, but when the Wild Ones begin threatening the town and abduct her, Hank sets out to rescue her and protect the townspeople of Rocky Glenn.
I enjoyed the small desert town of Rocky Glenn and its residents. Hank is a fun character because, despite wanting to appear like a fearsome outlaw, he has a heart of gold and shows a caring side with Clementine. Clementine is also interesting as she tries to find her place in the world and dreams of becoming like Calamity Jane. I especially liked Bandit, the talking horse. His love of alcohol and conversations with Hank were some of the funniest parts of the book. The story slows down a little while Hank is training and getting to know everyone in town, but I enjoyed spending time with the characters. Once Hank goes after the Wild Ones, things pick up again, and there is a lot more action. I recommend Once Upon a Time in a Spaghetti Western, Desperado Cowboy Shoot-'Em-Up Moving Picture Cinematic Feature Film to readers who enjoy westerns but want something a little different. I enjoyed the humor, the unusual characters, especially Bandit the talking horse, and Hank’s story, which made this a fun read.
