One More Second Chance is the story of Dr. Alex Campbell and high school principal Julia Stewart. Alex is in Lobster Cove to finish up a contract, after which he has plans to move to San Diego and he won’t be deterred. Julia is a single mother with aging sickly parents, and she’s dead set on staying in Lobster Cove no matter what. As Alex and Julia develop feelings for each other, they are both up against their own needs, or lack of needs. Alex doesn’t want to stay in the small town and Julia refuses to leave, especially for man. Jana Richards does a good job in showing exactly why Julia and Alex have such a hard time going after what they want, in favor of what they think they want. It makes for an entertaining, and at times frustrating, story.
I loved the way Jana Richards used Ava as the catalyst that allows both Alex and Julia to view each other in a different light after their not so great first meeting. I understood exactly why Alex and Julia were running from their feelings, but at times Julia was just unlikable. Her refusal to believe Alex, even when evidence of his good nature and plans to be there for her, were glaringly obvious was off putting. In that way, Alex was the more compelling character in One More Second Chance. He was kind and giving and his relationship with Ava was so sweet. The way they learn to act as a unit and trust one another made this an endearing story. Watching these two get their second chance was truly a delight!
