Cayden ‘Deni’ Indigo is not your ordinary seventeen-year-old. As a pop star, her days are a whirlwind of brightly colored wigs, rehearsals, tours, concerts, and relentless paparazzi. But everything changes when a bomb explodes at one of her concerts, killing seventeen people. Traumatized and overwhelmed, Deni’s mother whisks her away to a secluded lake in Canada, where no one recognizes her. Surrounded by nature and anonymity, Deni spends time with her new neighbor, Hunter Gray. With his gentle teasing and fun-filled summer adventures, Deni experiences peace and butterflies in her belly. But secrets don’t stay buried for long, and as both worlds begin to collide, Deni stands to lose not just her newfound peace but the boy she loves in One Night Only by Jennifer Farwell.

Hunter is the perfect hero. Genuinely caring, sweet, and a true gentleman, he’s everything a great boyfriend should be. I loved reading about their summer: kissing over bonfires, swimming in the lake, and catching tadpoles. Deni’s healing was genuine and gradual, and their connection was heartfelt. Jennifer Farwell highlights the trauma celebrities face. From constant paparazzi harassment to the invasion of privacy, every aspect of their lives is dissected and scrutinized. The worst came after the explosion when some people blamed Deni, and some wished she had died in the blast. But celebrities are humans too, and I am grateful Deni had people who genuinely cared about her. This is a beautiful story that focuses not on that terrible incident but on healing and the redemptive power of love. One Night Only is a must-read for lovers of YA romance and summer stories.
