Mark Wiseman dreads life without his beloved wife, Orchid, who died due to an accident. It seems his last chance to bring her back comes in the form of a mysterious stranger who calls himself the Necromancer. The offer is clearly ominous from the start. His wife is dead. She is in that casket at the bottom of a six-foot hole. Yet the stranger’s words stay with him; “I CAN GIVE HER BACK TO YOU. JUST DO NOT LET THEM BURY HER”. Orchid: Tales of the Black Sabbath is a short horror story by Shane K.P. O’Neill.

It never ends well if you defy nature and try to bring back the dead. Without being undervalued by its short length, Orchid successfully entertains as a flawless and complete horror story. Vivid portrayal of each scene is easily achieved, as if I was there with the protagonist himself, Mark Wiseman, when he did the impossible – and much forbidden – act. Author Shane K.P. O’Neill brilliantly delivers a dark yet poignant horror story. The plot is tight and he weaves the tale with a faultless, readable prose before tying up everything perfectly in the end.

I am familiar with Mr. O’Neill’s previous works, The Dracula Chronicles series, which I absolutely loved. I have to admit that my decision to read this new series of his is largely out of curiosity, to see how he does with a short story. He did not disappoint me. A perfect read for everyone.
