Own Your Self: Master Your Character, Rise to Any Challenge, Find True Inner Peace is a non-fiction motivational self-help book written by Cary Hokama. After a string of disappointments in career choices and life in general, the author decided to look for answers in some of the more reputable and well-known self-help books. He was stunned by the amount of information that was available to him and decided to put that newly acquired knowledge to use to improve the quality of his life. Own Your Self represents the work he put into making those things he learned his own, and it shows how he transformed his life and how readers can transform theirs. He breaks down his material into five categories: thought and mind, food and nutrition, health and fitness, success and wealth, and giving back, and he shares his own journey and personal recommendations in each section.
Cary Hokama's non-fiction motivational self-help book, Own Your Self: Master Your Character, Rise to Any Challenge, Find True Inner Peace, is a comprehensive and well-organized guide for getting into the best mental and physical shape of your life. The author is as frank and generous with sharing the disappointments, missteps and issues he faced starting out as he is with setting out the tools he found so useful in turning his life around and making it shine. Hokama doesn't sit back on his laurels and bask in his glory. He sees his life as a work in progress and makes the effort to do things infused with grace and gratitude, and this attitude shows on every page of the book. I was particularly interested in his sections on the mind, nutrition and fitness, especially the impact that martial arts has had on both his and his wife's lives. Own Your Self: Master Your Character, Rise to Any Challenge, Find True Inner Peace packs a lot of essential information into a relatively compact guide that's well-written and enjoyable to read. A most impressive debut book. It's highly recommended.
