It is 3025, and humanity lives in self-sustaining domes under the governance of AG, an all-powerful artificial superintelligence. For sixteen-year-old Dolthea Madras Thorpe, the rigid and programmed way of life in her home dome, the Potomac, is suffocating and dissatisfying. Born with a superhuman intellect, Dolthea craves more than the artificial life in the dome. When an unanticipated crisis rocks the world, AG schedules the shutdown of over a hundred domes, including The Potomac, to combat the threat posed. There are only fifty days before millions of lives in the Potomac face death. Determined to evade her sealed fate, Dolthea joins forces with renegades and close allies, leading an uprising against AG. Can she race against time to save the Potomac? Find out in Richard Carson Bailey’s Panacea: The Age of AG.
Introducing the idea of a future utopian world under the control of an artificial superintelligence, Bailey weaved an intriguing plot and introduced me to a fascinating cast. The vivid depictions breathed life into the scenes. It felt like I was next to the cast in every scene, closely following their moves. I was swept up in a whirlwind of teenage and family drama, deception, survival, sacrifices, secrets, rebellion, powerful AI, and more. Bailey uses sharp, lively conversations entwined with wry humor and sarcasm to give depth to the cast’s conflicts. The depictions of the characters' emotions and the juxtaposition of their traits allowed me to connect with them. Richard Carson Bailey’s Panacea is a must-read for lovers of young adult dystopian sci-fi and coming-of-age novels blended with adventure, suspense, and drama.
