Parker’s Choice is a work of fiction in the suspense, interpersonal drama, and criminal intrigue sub-genres, and was penned by author Mike Nemeth. The work is intended for the general reading audience and contains very mild non-graphic references that make it an accessible read for all. Our protagonist is the titular character Parker, a man with plenty to hide, who tries to escape but is pulled into a world of crime, deceit, and treachery by those he once worked with. With a target on his head as the prime suspect for the death of his former enemy, Parker pairs up with the enigmatic Sabrina to try to clear his name, as well as getting to the root of the scheme to bring him down.

Author Mike Nemeth has crafted a tense work of southern fiction with plenty of gothic touches, clever concepts, and high drama to offer readers. One of the features which I found particularly impressive about this piece was its attention to detail throughout, extending from the gorgeously painted scenes and moods to the minute details of the schemes and plots surrounding Parker. It makes you feel more deeply invested in the story and keeps you thinking even when you’ve put the book down for a while. The dialogue was also highly effective, serving to display the unique traits of the characters whilst moving the plot forward in a natural way, and giving those authentic southern flavors another dimension. Overall, I would highly recommend Parker’s Choice to fans of intriguing suspense novels, well-formed, realistic characters, and for southern thriller readers everywhere.

Parker’s Choice by Mike Nemeth is one of those books that had me rooting for the protagonist and enjoying the complexity of the dilemma in which he finds himself. Parker wants a quiet life, but his past is always catching up with him. He has a strong sense of values, but he is being blackmailed by someone very important — from his past. His current boss manipulates him into committing fraud. But his troubles are unbearable when he becomes a suspect in the murder of his old enemy. A startling revelation implicates his biological father in the mess happening in his life. Accompanied by Sabrina, his colleague, Parker must pursue the truth, the whole truth while staying away from the cops. But is he prepared for what awaits him?

I love books with strong and sophisticated characters and Mike Nemeth does a wonderful job in creating Parker — a man who lives by principles and who is beset by all sorts of trials. As the story progresses, he comes to a point where he has to make the ultimate choice about loyalty: Will he stand by blood or his personal values? There are important details about Parker that reflect on his behavior and how he reacts to the world and people around him. An example is dropping his family name when he discovers that his mother’s husband was not his biological father. The way the author works on the relationship between Parker and his estranged birth father is brilliant. Sabrina is a great side-kick and a good colleague, an intelligent woman with an indispensable role in the story. I loved the realistic world reflecting modern technology like smart home security monitoring — something that is becoming part of our contemporary experience. The setting is deftly written, taking readers through locales that are vividly described. Parker’s Choice is a well-plotted, fast-paced, and engaging novel about choices and loyalty.

Parker is a smart, savvy man who works as an analyst for an international corporation, India Business Services, a partner of Shaw Technology. He lives a complicated life and sometimes his choices – as well as some of his colleagues’ practices - are outside the law. He and his wife Paula, an alcoholic, currently live in Atlanta; their daughter Jordyn generally views Parker through her mother’s jaded perspective. They moved from Florida, and their previous life, after his eighteen-month prison stint. A former business partner in Florida, Meredith Walker, re-entered their lives as she was suing for half the proceeds from the sale of their company’s intellectual property. The complex entanglements in Parker’s life provide many thrilling moments in the suspense-filled novel, Parker’s Choice, written by Mike Nemeth.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this story is the intermixing of the professional and personal lives of the main characters. This adds layers of complexity to the plot; yet, it is easy to remember where each character belongs. All the major characters have intriguing personalities, with Parker’s being the most thought-provoking. He has never known the identity of his biological father, and how this lack of information impacts his personality is certainly captivating. Sabrina, Paula, and Meredith are also quite interesting characters, as each one demonstrates different feminine aspects in today’s world – add addiction, mental health issues, and the effects of racism in their lives. Author Mike Nemeth has crafted a gripping work in Parker’s Choice; new truths are not exposed until the last chapters. It will engage the reader from the first page to the last!
