"Parrot & Sweeney" by Alan Roberts is a humorous 'whodunit' novel containing three separate short stories. The main characters Detective Chief Superintendent George Parrot and Detective Daniel Sweeney are called into action to help solve a kidnapping that turns out to be the result of a murder that happened ten years earlier, to find the killer of a well-known socialite who loves to tear other people down and finally to find who shot at a banker and his brother killing one by mistake. So goes a new adventure for Parrot and Sweeney as they encounter blackmailing, kidnapping and strange murders. Will they solve the mysteries and bring the villains to light?

This is the first book I have read about this detective team and I really enjoyed trying to solve the mysteries. I like the way Mr. Roberts gives little clues and hints as he introduces you to the characters in each story. You may just be able to figure out who the culprit is but be prepared for some twists and turns that will lead you the wrong way. I have found parts of the book to have a humorous touch to it along with the suspenseful nature. For the most part the book is cleanly written but there are hints at sexual activity along with the occasional coarse language. With the author being from England, some readers may find words that they are not sure of. That is just the British way of speaking. All in all I feel this is an interesting read and I am sure it will be enjoyed by many, especially the mystery buffs.
