Dania Voss brings readers another enthralling tale of love and romance with the sixth installment of the Cascade Springs, Texas, series. Payten's Patriot follows Payten Walsh, an accountant whose life turns upside down when she discovers her boyfriend cheating on her, causing her to quit her job. Her best friend, Reagan McCarthy, advises her to go to Cascade Springs and live in the McCarthy family's vacation home until she gets her life back on track. When Reagan's older brother, Jacob McCarthy, a former Marine, finds out that Payten is spending time at their vacation home, he is eager to renew their relationship. Jacob still remembers the drunken night they spent together at Reagan's wedding. However, Payten's older brother, Daniel, is Jacob's best friend, and he feels guilty about pursuing Daniel's sister.
A short but absorbing romance, Payten's Patriot makes you wish the book were longer. One of the best things about the Cascade Springs, Texas, series is that, if you've read any of the previous installments, it feels like going back home. The atmosphere and the characters are so immersive. Dania Voss' worldbuilding is fantastic, and I think fans of the series will have a blast with this one. The premise is interesting, especially for rom-com lovers, and Voss executes the plot perfectly. It's layered with drama, romance, and even a couple of unexpected twists. Both Payten and Jacob have likable personalities, and I was rooting for them to end up together from the moment they met. The humor-filled dialogue was another highlight for me. Readers of contemporary romance will thoroughly enjoy this book.
