Kids from two to five will love it when you read Pete the Panda to them. K.A. Mulenga shares simple facts about pandas, their habits, and their habitat. Pete the Panda enjoys everyday activities like eating, swimming, sleeping, and climbing. But he is shocked when one day he discovers that there is no bamboo cluster. His friend tells him that people cut them all down so that they can use the land for building. Pat teaches Pete not to lose hope because you never know what will happen tomorrow.

I loved the drawings of the pandas, which made them look so soft and cuddly. The simple language and easy-to-read font make it undemanding for toddlers to follow and improve their word recognition. They are introduced to variations in words, like eat and eating, or swim and swimming. They will also learn new words like bamboo, cluster, munching, delicious, and starving. Children will love the alliteration, repetition, and different sentence lengths. The emphasis on the fact that pandas can only eat bamboo ensures that the kids know how bad it is when Pete discovers the bamboo clusters are gone! When Pete asks, "What are we going to eat?" it ensures that young ones will learn why it is critical to care for the environment. They will also understand that there is always hope. K.A. Mulenga also introduces the 'Do Not' road sign, which authorities use in many ways to ensure people's safety.
