Phoenix Knight: The Lost Son by James Ungurait follows a college student named Phoenix Knight, who is affected by his mother’s sudden disappearance and the mysterious changes taking place around him. At first, everything appears normal at his school—that is, until Phoenix and his friends discover a covert world beneath their campus. Their strange discovery leads to secret tunnels and other clues pointing to the existence of powerful hidden societies. Phoenix is shocked to discover that his mother belonged to one of them, while the other one is on a quest for total domination. Slowly, he uncovers more surprising truths about his mother and unveils more details about his family lineage. His path is filled with betrayal and danger, but he's determined to discover the complete truth about his identity, once and for all.

Reading Phoenix Knight: The Lost Son felt like going on a treasure hunt where every clue revealed something new about both the mystery and the main character’s identity. It has the perfect blend of drama, family history, and an exciting touch of the supernatural. I liked how the story smoothly merges Phoenix's college life with these newly discovered hidden societies. James Ungurait's energetic writing style makes both worlds feel both believable and thrilling. Phoenix's character stood out the most. He is a teen growing up under unusual circumstances, just trying to figure out who he is while everything he thought he knew starts to fall apart. His emotions—confusion, anger, and curiosity—felt real and relatable. I also liked how the author used Phoenix's coming-of-age journey to explore themes like trust and identity. This intriguing urban fantasy is about finding the courage to face who you truly are. I found it emotional, thought-provoking, and hard to put down.
