Pioneering Secrets by Liane Mahugh is the first book in the captivating Rolling Brook Falls Mysteries series. Detective Corey Sayers moves from Toronto to the small town of Rolling Brook Falls, expecting a quiet life. However, within two weeks of his arrival, a teenager is inexplicably murdered. Andie, a local teacher, is heartbroken over the loss of her favorite student. Her best friend, CJ, who is a reporter, encourages Andie to investigate the case. Detective Sayers and Andie begin to reluctantly exchange information, discovering that they work well together despite their initial reservations. As their collaboration develops, Corey finds it hard to keep Andie at arm’s length, especially when danger comes knocking at her door. Will he be able to protect her the next time the killer knocks?
From the first chapter, it was clear that choosing to read Pioneering Secrets was a great decision. Liane Mahugh takes a familiar plot—a no-nonsense detective teaming up with an amateur sleuth—and transforms it into a remarkable story. She skillfully blends humor with urgency as the characters join forces. This mystery is a vibrant introduction to an enjoyable series, with a hint of romance blossoming between Corey and Andie. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and eagerly anticipate Andie’s next adventure. Will it involve an exclusive story with her best friend, CJ, or will Detective Sayers be in the mix? Regardless, I’m hooked on whatever this author writes. Liane Mahugh has proven to be a versatile writer capable of crafting engaging stories across multiple genres.
