Plumb Out of Time by ML Biddison is an epic time travel story involving a man thrust into life along the Colorado River in the 1800s. The story starts with Nat Williams bumping off a road along the Colorado River at night at 70 miles per hour and narrowly escaping a terrible accident. He decides not to push his luck and settles in for the night beside his bike. But at daybreak, he realizes he can't find the road. Instead, a landscape that seems untouched by civilization spreads out in all directions. Searching for the closest city, Nat crosses paths with six Mojave men who invite him to their village. Shortly after his arrival, Nat gets to know two white sisters, Ali and Mary Ann. A few seasons ago, they were rescued by the Mojave from living a bad life with wanderers. However, their happy life with the Mojave could end if the soldiers camping not so far away discover their presence in the village. Nat promises to help the sisters hide from the soldiers. But an army scout discovers Ali and Mary Ann's hideout and, when least expected, abducts them. Can the sisters be rescued without a conflict between the Mojave and the troops?
Although the story is fictional, it is based on actual historical figures and the lives they led. ML Biddison took the historical records and inserted meaty fiction to create an enthralling story that is both educational and entertaining. With well-drawn characters at its core, Plumb Out of Time is a relentless journey that will keep you engaged with adventure, history, and complex issues that involve race, human nature, and good and evil. I loved the suspense; readers will never know what to expect, and the plot has a way of sucking one deep into the story. Even while taking you through different realities and situations involving the future, present, and past, Biddison ensures you are never lost or confused. Even more exciting are the many pivotal moments and adrenaline-packed action scenes that'll leave you on the edge of your seat. Plumb Out of Time goes deeper than offering an action-packed, fun adventure. It significantly expands on alternate realities and the flow of time and asks profound questions about love, connection, and what it means to be home.
