Postponement by Diane M Dresback is a women’s story that would appeal most to a mixed audience of mature young adults and adults who enjoy stories based on ethical dilemmas. What if a parent who was not ready to be a parent could have their newborn baby put on cryo-suspension? Are they prepared? This is the service that the Postponement Center now provides, as it allows babies to remain in cry pod units until their parents are ready to bring them home. Nora Collins is a client liaison who lives a solitary life, leading her to become quite emotionally attached to the frozen babies. Her quiet life is interrupted by a parent who wants to bring her baby home, yet in doing so, she will be placing the baby in a dangerous situation. Will Nora obey the parent, or will she disobey and save the child?
Postponement by Diane M Dresback was a well-written book with an intriguing cover image that grabbed my attention when I saw it. I have read plenty of books with cry pods and cryostasis, but this is the first book that involved babies. I found the ethical implications interesting, with the impact of being able to freeze a baby until you are ready to bring them home. I felt like I could understand and sympathize with the characters on both sides of the dilemma. I wondered what I would do if this were a real option in today's world. Overall, I enjoyed how this book made me think and question everything as I read.
