We can allow our emotions to be a positive or a negative part of our lives; it all depends on whether we choose to learn from them. Dr. David Hawkins exhorts that we should learn to examine our emotions. Emotions can assist us in “settling old issues, make new decisions, and discover the heart of God.”
Scripture tells us that God is an emotional God; he showed joy in His creation; he showed care for His creation. He was probably disappointed more than once. We are created in God’s image. We have been given the ability to think, reason, and feel. Jesus showed the emotion of compassion and love, He loved us so much He humbled Himself and walked the Earth with us.
Many of our emotions have negative connotation but are actually very useful, such as the emotion of anger. Anger can be destructive or it can be used to bring about change. Dr. Hawkins discusses the value of our emotions and how to use them to enrich all aspects of our lives. I found The Power of Emotional Decision Making informative and very interesting. It has left me with a lot of ponder. The format easily holds the reader’s attention. I will be recommending this one to my church for a small group study. A workbook would be beneficial (hint); perhaps the author will consider writing one in the future. All people would benefit from reading The Power of Emotional Decision Making.
