Evan Wycliff spends his days as a guest preacher, and an occasional detective in Missouri, tending to his family by choice. Set to be a carer for a young couple that has gone through their fair share of misery and pain in life, (his wife Loretta's younger sister Melissa and the father of her child, Luke), Evan soon finds out that a criminal named Shackleton, also his nemesis, has some plans for him. Always driven by honesty and the exploration of faith in God, Evan must go through painful trials to make sense of Shackleton's true intentions and get his family together again. After his wife Loretta's accident, he begins to question his own faith and work as a preacher. At the same time, he is solving crimes connected to Shackleton, to whom he becomes bound in more ways than he ever imagined, and to keep his family out of harm's way. Will he have the strength to endure everything that God has sent his way, or will he crack under the burden of obligation and criminal influence that surrounds him?

Preacher Raises the Dead will make you reconsider the way you look at faith, life, and aspects of human nature in this intriguing novel by Gerald Everett Jones. Jones's writing simply flows eloquently with every sentence in this exciting mystery novel! He portrayed the character of Evan so realistically that one can easily think that he is a real person, which is what I liked the most about this novel. Imbued with an inner monologue, tackling contemporary issues and giving an air of freshness to the stale detective novel genre, and with just a touch of the supernatural, Preacher Raises the Dead is the perfect read for any time of day or year, and for anyone who dares to think outside the box.
