In Precious, Kate by Ron Stock, the main characters Kate and Jayson find their way back to each other even after life takes them on different paths. The compelling story begins when Jayson first lays eyes on Kate who is a new student at his school. Unapologetic and independent, Kate’s nature attracts Jayson who is also awestruck by her beauty. The two become close friends, supporting each other, and doing everything together. Kate is, however, set on leaving Lake Arrowhead and becoming a doctor. Jayson, on the other hand, vows never to leave the mountains. Both follow their dreams but Jayson still holds on to the hope that Kate will one day come back to him. A devastating event brings Kate back home but she is still unsure whether she should settle down with Jayson.
I loved that in Precious, Kate, Ron Stock creates unique main characters with different opinions and dreams which creates suspense as to how their story will culminate. While Kate is brilliant at school, analytical like her father, an accomplished college professor, Jayson struggles with his studies. Attracted by life outdoors, Jayson carves a suitable path for himself. The story is set in the serene Lake Arrowhead area whose picturesque scenery and beautiful lake presents many fun activities for Kate and Jayson to explore as their friendship blossoms. The heartbreaking losses they suffer bring them closer as they support each other. Precious, Kate by Ron Stock brings together hopeful and painful moments. It explores an enthralling romance through the lives of two unalike characters.
