Precipice by Alex Croft is the third installment in the Sultry Chicago series. It follows Nadia Kapoor, a hardened private security agent recovering from trauma, and the unexpected revelations involving her estranged mother, Mahira, and prospective husband, Kabir Aslam. Conflict brews when Nadia is assigned to protect Aslam, the man her family once tried to marry her off to in an arranged marriage. As an elite agent navigating dangerous encounters, she struggles with the repercussions of her broken family ties and romantic entanglements, especially those with ex-soldier Ross Gallagher, whose own battles with intimacy complicate their evolving relationship. When Mahira and Kabir are abducted, Nadia’s world teeters on the brink. Can Nadia protect those who matter to her and unravel the mystery behind the abductions?

Nadia, whose journey captures the sense of independence, betrayal, and emotional strength, is a heroine to follow closely. As a woman who has fought through life’s challenging moments, her professionalism as a security agent is counterbalanced by her weaknesses and desires, exemplified in her relationship with Ross. The setting of contemporary Chicago is fraught with socio-political intricacies and frames their journeys as members of a multicultural society where women continually struggle to find their place. Precipice is packed with action, and the plot is unpredictable, an element that makes it suspenseful and page-turning. Alex Croft fills the writing with narrow escapes and moments that make readers think something terrible will happen. This is an irresistible read for fans of character-driven narratives with themes of espionage, crime, and pulse-pounding action.
