Author Biography

State library theme was space. I was asked to do a presentation on illustrating children's books and to bring one of my "space books" to the presentation. Not having a space book -- but having granddaughter -- I completed Prettiest Girl on Planet X in time for the program.

Let's meet the prettiest girl on Planet X and her puppy Knuffelen in the storybook Prettiest Girl on Planet X by Michael Verrett. They live in outer space and Planet X is big and blue. The sun and moon are their neighbors. Space is a very active place and comets that look like giant snowballs zoom around the sun. Asteroids sometimes tumble into the moon and there are a lot of galaxies and stars. Being the prettiest girl on the planet is a busy job and she is always fixing robots. Planet X is 99% water and the fish and sea life give the prettiest girl and Knuffelen plenty to eat. They visit Planets Y and Z and travel in a rocket to outer space. They both go for spacewalks and they collect moonbeams, sunbeams, and stardust. Why is she the prettiest girl on Planet X? Let's find out from the sun and the moon why she is the prettiest girl on Planet X.

Prettiest Girl on Planet X by Michael Verrett is fun and adventurous and children will have a good time going to outer space with the prettiest girl and Knuffelen. The illustrations are charming and adorable and they breathe life and action into the characters and the story. It is an entertaining bedtime storybook and parents and grandparents can read it out loud to their kids and grandkids. It is a fascinating storybook for tutors to use in classrooms for read-aloud and storytelling sessions and will give children glimpses of outer space in an interactive and whimsical way.
