Psychology of...Horror Villains, Survivors, and Victims: Movie Edition vol. II by S. L. Yarbrough is a fascinating look at the horror genre. This book dives head first into the category we all know and love, from classic movie monsters like Frankenstein and Pennywise to real-life serial killers. It even takes a look at the holidays like Christmas and Halloween and discusses the folklore behind them. We hear about Krampus and the little boy who stalks his prey on Halloween. There is a superstition that you should leave your Halloween decorations out until the next day or you will be killed by the little boy with a sack over his head. This is an interesting take on the stories we grew up with like the lore of vampires and werewolves. This book even looks at modern horror from The Shining to Samara in The Ring, while aliens also feature. The psychological backgrounds of these characters are examined and there is a section on the various therapies and medication that could have helped them. The motivation behind the actions of all these characters is explained and a detailed background is given, providing an inside look into their past and why they act as they do. This book is enlightening and one that lovers of horror stories will enjoy.

Psychology of...Horror Villains, Survivors, and Victims by S. L. Yarbrough is an entertaining read. Not only did the author explore hidden secrets but also told the story from the perspective of the monster, which was unusual. The comments as to whether or not they could have been helped were informative and gave the discussion life. From classic to modern monsters, we see the evolution of horror and where it is headed in the future. Gone is the old bloody hook on the car door, which has been replaced by characters like Samara who uses technology to kill her victims. You have to sympathize with some of the characters, thanks to the detailed background provided by the author. I recommend this book to any lover of the horror genre and hope that they will love it as much as I did.
