Rapture had transpired and earth was transformed to a hellish place. Natural disasters and scarcity of food numbered days for all living things and the color of blood marked the night sky and the moon. By night, earth was a playground for demons. Sam couldn't rise up to Heaven because of his demonic lineage. Nevertheless, he had a mission to protect what was left of humanity on earth. With his trusted katanas, he prepared himself for another mission: a sacred destiny that was waiting for him in City of Angels.
Written by Phillip W. Simpson, "Rapture", book one in the 'Rapture Trilogy', is a bold bible-inspired fiction on humanity’s fate during the seven year tribulation before the Second Coming. This book takes readers into a future that is both terrifying and intriguing. Sam is the anti-hero that readers will love. He is sad, hesitant yet bold and determined and misses his adopted family. If only he were a bit older than eighteen, and a little less angry! And the flashbacks, although important to let the readers know about his past, show the story down. But it only lasts until the middle of the story from where the pace is faster. On the other hand, I’m glad that this book isn't too religious for me to read and the post-apocalyptic world is very well-described. The cover design is one of the best I have seen so far. All in all, I like the story’s concept, and this trilogy will gain its own loyal fans.
