Reaper is a work of fiction in the Christian fantasy and action subgenres. It is intended for the mature reading audience owing to scenes of violence and of a sexual nature and was penned by J. R. Lightfoot. In this epic battle of good versus evil, taken from Christian themes and theology, we meet our titular Reaper, Jaml, who has been tasked as a holy warrior to battle the devilspawn that Lucifer has sent to infect the land. Infused with angelic power, Jaml finds himself on a quest to recover all the weapons that could cause the Apocalypse and restore the faith of a land shaken by fear, doubt, and demons.
Christian fantasy fiction can sometimes fall foul of trying to balance itself too far on one side of the genre or the other, or come off as too “safe” or “gentle”, but J. R. Lightfoot has crafted a perfect equilibrium of gritty, war-torn realism and strong Biblical messages in this epic novel. Whether you’re religious or not, the conceptual framework for the Reapers and their amazing powers stands on its own merits and presents a complex hero with a dangerous task at hand, and one which certainly kept me on the edge of my seat as I waited eagerly for Jaml’s next trial. Fans of Christian-themed fiction who also want to read about truly epic and action-packed battles are sure to find everything they want in Reaper and discover a new and talented author along the way.
