Red River Song is the first book in the Descendant Series by A.R. Mummey. Everything starts to change for introvert Lorelei when mysterious and attractive Patrick enters her life. Suddenly she becomes aware of strange energies coming from her body - like blue sparks that kill alarm clocks, and there seems to be more attention on her, and not only good attention. Someone wants her dead. Unfortunately that someone is a supernatural being. Fortunately, Lorelei also discovers that she is far more than a normal human being. But can she unite the factions against a common enemy? Can she turn from being a normal student to being the leader of a supernatural team?

A.R. Mummey weaves an interesting tale in Red River Song, and I am so incredibly pleased about the introverted main character. It is finally a book where introverts can identify a bit with the main character (apart from magical powers, of course). I thought that Lorelei's reactions to people and certain events in the story were absolutely on spot, even though I wish she'd done some things a bit differently - but if a main character always does what you expect, it would be a rather boring reading experience. This story is anything but boring, and I would recommend it to all readers who like stories about supernatural beings like vampires (don't call them that though!), sorceresses and succubi. It is book in which nothing is as it seems, and even Lorelei's best friends have secrets that make her question their friendship. I am sure most readers will enjoy spending some time with the characters in Red River Song.
