Replete Vivacity by Eugene Lucas is a streetwise, straight shooting, heartfelt vision of happiness and ultimate fulfillment in the presence of overwhelming odds - a defiant gesture of hope in a bleak and unforgiving universe. As a man, as a father, as a lover, and as a soul searching for peace, Eugene Lucas actively searches in these spare and courageous verses for stability in an unstable world and, in so doing, imparts to his readers an earnest wish that they will be able to manifest the same in their lives.

There is a heartbreaking vulnerability in Lucas’ vision. Lucas the man is, at times, hanging by a thread. From “2 Meet There”: If I smile my ego is fragile as/A woman's pelvis bone/If I show no emotions/I am cold … Alternatively, Lucas the father is determined to rise to the occasion, despite the odds. From “Da Storm”: My son, my li’l man/Your daddy will stand against/The monsoon for you. Finally, Lucas the lover and sojourner is approaching peace through the redeeming powers of a woman’s love. From “2 Touch a Cloud”: Sitting alone with my thoughts/Replete filled/Vivacity lively/To my outside frowning/My inner has a smile of peace/To the chapters closing/With a new story to read.

Eugene Lucas’ wish for well-being for his readers is as sincere and unflinching as his muscular, direct poetic style. Replete Vivacity is the poetic equivalent of a call to arms: “Readers, don’t take hardship lying down - stand and FIGHT for your own happiness!” The message is both timely and powerful. Replete Vivacity by Eugene Lucas will not fail to uplift and empower readers.
