Resonance by Kip Koelsch is an intriguing story that follows Karl, a grieving man who has just lost his father. While sorting through his family's belongings, he discovers a mysterious seashell that talks to him. The soft, calm voice emanating from the shell prompts him to remember and claims to be his long-dead brother, Alex, who died when he was just two years old. Born thirteen years after Alex, Karl only knew about him through family stories and has no shared memories with him. Karl becomes obsessed with the seashell, much to the concern of his wife, who advises him to focus on settling his father's estate. Despite her advice, Karl sinks deeper into his fixation, blurring the lines between reality and the whispers from the shell. This obsession leads him on a psychological journey that questions memory, grief, and his identity.

Resonance is a compelling narrative that explores the profound connections that can exist beyond the physical realm of death. It highlights the importance of cherishing the memories of loved ones who have passed on, illustrating how their influence can continue to comfort us. At the same time, the story is a cautionary tale about the potential dangers of becoming too attached to these memories. Kip Koelsch’s narrative illustrates the varying ways individuals process grief—while some choose to forget and move on, others seek solace in different forms. The book incorporates supernatural elements that bridge the past and present, examining themes such as reincarnation, possession, and déjà vu. The story is suspenseful because the plot is unpredictable, featuring shocking twists you will not see coming. Overall, it is a thought-provoking read that delves into loss and the possibility of communication across the boundaries of life and death.
